Late summer and fall are shaping up to be a great time for fans of legendary actress Ingrid Bergman. If the Swedish icon were alive today, she would be celebrating her one hundredth birthday this August. BAMcinématek is honoring the late actress’s legacy with an “Ingrid Bergman Tribute” set to take place this September in Brooklyn. Isabella Rossellini, Bergman’s daughter, will co-create and host the event, which will include readings, letters and personal footage from Bergman’s own archives.

For two weeks following the tribute, BAMcinématek will host a film retrospective of Bergman’s career, which includes three Academy Award-winning performances. The screenings will highlight some of Bergman’s most famous films, such as “Casablanca,” in addition to more obscure fare like “June Night,” a 1940 Swedish-language drama about the inescapable legacy of a dysfunctional romance. Look for “Ingrid Bergman, A Film Retrospective” in BAM Rose Cinemas from September 13 to 29.

“The Ingrid Bergman Tribute,” created and written by Ludovica Damiani (and Guido Torlonia) in collaboration with Rossellini, will be held in the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House September 12.

Finally, fans of Bergman, who famously left Hollywood to return to her native Europe, will no doubt be interested to learn more about her career and love life, including her then-notorious affair with Italian director Roberto Rossellini, in the upcoming doc “Ingrid Bergman — In Her Own Words.” Fellow Swede Alicia Vikander (“Testament of Youth,” “Ex Machina”) provides narration as Bergman in the film, which debuted at Cannes earlier this year. A trailer for “Ingrid Bergman: In Her Own Words” begins with a voiceover stating, “I never had the intention of staying in Sweden — that I knew from the beginning.” Unfortunately, no US release date for the documentary has been announced yet, but fans in Sweden can witness Bergman’s journey from riding on horses during her youth to starring in motion pictures in Hollywood when “Ingrid Bergman — In Her Own Words” opens August 28 in her home country.
