“Insecure’s” Natasha Rothwell Signs Overall Deal with HBO

Rothwell in "Insecure": HBO

Another “Insecure” actress is strengthening her relationship with the network behind the Issa Rae-starrer. Best known for playing Kelli on the Peabody-winning comedy, Natasha Rothwell has signed an overall deal with the premium cable network. In addition to her on-screen role on “Insecure,” Rothwell is also a writer and supervising producer on the series.

According to Deadline, the pact sees her developing an original idea for HBO which she’ll star in, write, and exec produce.

The former “Saturday Night Live” scribe has a number of high-profile projects in the works. She’ll be seen in Patty Jenkins'”Wonder Woman 1984″ as well as “Sonic the Hedgehog,” a live-action take on the classic video game. She also as a role in “Limited Partners,” a comedy about best friends played by Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne.

Last month it was announced that Amanda Seales, who plays Tiffany on “Insecure,” will make her comedy special debut on HBO. “Amanda Seales: I Be Knowin’” is expected to premiere in early 2019. Just this week word came that “Insecure’s” co-creator and star, Rae, will topline and co-write a limited series for HBO, “The Dolls.” Based on actual events, the project tells the story of the 1983 riots that erupted over Cabbage Patch dolls on Christmas Eve.
