To be honest there is some confusion about this story. 411 is reporting that Barbra Streisand was going to direct Skinny and Cat to star Cate Blanchett about the lives of photographer Margaret Bourke-White and writer Erskine Caldwell. But now it looks like both Streisand and Blanchett are no longer attached to that film. Rachel Weisz is now set to star as Bourke-White in Skinny and Cat and they are just looking for a new director.
But, it looks like Streisand is developing her own script about the couple. Bourke-White was the first female photographer for Life magazine in 1936. She married Erskine Caldwell, a controversial Southern author of Tobacco Road and God’s Little Acre, in 1939. They collaborated on the book You Have Seen Their Faces, about the American South during the Great Depression. The two divorced in 1942.
Streisand will not be appearing in the film and this will be Streisand’s first time directing since 1996’s The Mirror Has Two Faces.
We hope to get more firm details soon.
