Isabel Coixet is heading to the Lido. Variety reports that the Spanish filmmaker will preside over the jury of the Venice Film Festival’s Horizons section, which is dedicated to unconventional, cutting-edge titles. She’s joined by four other jurors, two of whom are women: “Sworn Virgin” writer-director Laura Bispuri and “The Blessed” filmmaker Sofia Djama.
“The Bookshop” and “The Secret Life of Words” are among Coixet’s credits. Her upcoming slate includes “Nobody’s Heart,” a romance based on the life of Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa. “Loki’s” Gugu Mbatha-Raw will star.
Set to take place August 31-September 10, Venice Film Fest is celebrating its 79th edition this year. Julianne Moore is heading the fest’s main jury.
