Isabel Coixet fans and food lovers, rejoice. The “Bookshop” and “Elegy” filmmaker is writing and directing a TV show about a couple who meet via an app for foodies. The HBO Europe project is appropriately titled “Foodie Love,” Screen Daily reports.
The eight-part half-hour series will follow two 30-somethings who as they get to know each other after connecting through the app. “Over several dates they’ll have to discover if their common devotion to Japanese yuzu or shared distaste for foodie pretension are enough to build the foundations of a lasting love story,” the source details.
“Foodie Love” is expected to film sometime this year. The project marks Coixet’s first TV series, though she previously helmed an episode of “50 años de” and wrote and directed the 1998 Goya Awards.
Coixet’s latest feature, “Elisa y Marcela,” tells the story of Spain’s first lesbian marriage. The women were able to get married in a church wedding when one of them posed as a man. The film premiered at Berlinale last month. “My Life Without Me,” “The Secret Life of Words,” and “Cosas que nunca te dije” are among Coixet’s other credits.
