Issa Rae, creator and star of HBO’s upcoming comedy “Insecure,” has signed a first-look production deal with the network, Deadline reports.
The two-year contract will have Rae develop programming for diverse voices for all of HBO’s platforms, including HBO GO and HBO NOW.
“Insecure,” which hits HBO on October 9, was developed out of Rae’s successful web series, “The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl,” and follows the friendship of two black women, Issa (Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji), and their hilariously awkward daily lives.
“Modern-day black women are usually portrayed as strong, confident and ‘flawless.’ But Issa and Molly are definitely not ‘killing it,’” HBO’s official description reads. “These best friends must deal with their own real-life flaws as they attempt to navigate different worlds and cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences.”
A new teaser trailer has also just been released that highlights Issa’s boyfriend troubles. Check it out below, and keep your eyes out for more projects from Rae.
