Issa Rae and Stella Meghie are set to collaborate for a third time. The former will star in the latter’s next film, “The Photograph.” Variety confirmed the news. Written and directed by Meghie, the romantic drama “centers on intertwining love stories in the past and present.” “Get Out’s” LaKeith Stanfield will co-star.
Rae and Meghie first teamed up on an episode of “Insecure,” Rae’s HBO series. Meghie directed an episode of the comedy’s third and most recent season, “Fresh-Like.”
The pair are also working together on “American Princess.” Currently in pre-production, the feature tells the story of an American woman who moves to London and is drawn into a world of wealth and high society. Meghie is directing and Rae starring.
Best known for her 2017 adaptation of YA novel “Everything, Everything” led by Amandla Stenberg, Meghie received an 2017 Indie Spirit Award for best first screenplay for “Jean of the Joneses,” which also marked her feature directorial debut. Her most recent pic, “The Weekend,” made its world premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival.
Rae will be seen next in “Little,” Tina Gordon’s comedy about a woman who transforms into her younger self when her adult responsibilities become too much to deal with. Regina Hall and Marsai Martin also star in the pic, set to bow April 12.
