Jac Schaeffer Will Write and Showrun Scarlet Witch Series Starring Elizabeth Olsen

Jac Schaeffer has signed on for yet another Marvel project. The co-writer of “Captain Marvel” and scribe of the upcoming Black Widow film will pen and showrun a series about Avengers characters Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) for Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+. Both Olsen and Bettany are expected to star, reprising their “Avengers” roles. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.

“Vision and Scarlet Witch are some of Marvel Comics’ most enduring characters, with a (sometime) tender love story binding the two through many decades,” THR summarizes. “Vision is a synthezoid who was created by Ultron, one of the Avengers’ greatest enemies, and is a being who longs for human understanding. Scarlet Witch, whose alter ego is Wanda Maximoff, has various sorcery abilities.”

Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff made her MCU debut in an uncredited cameo in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Since then she’s appeared in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Captain America: Civil War,” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” as has Vision. Scarlet Witch will return in “Avengers: Endgame,” out April 26.

Olsen stars as a young widow in Facebook Watch’s “Sorry for Your Loss.” The show has been renewed for a second season, which will bow sometime this year. “Ingrid Goes West” and “Martha Marcy May Marlene” are among her other credits.

Schaeffer wrote and directed sci-fi rom-com “TiMER.” She’s also one of the writers of “The Hustle,” the “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” remake starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. It’s scheduled to open May 10.

“Captain Marvel” hits theaters March 8. Schaeffer wrote the script with Geneva Robertson-Dworet and directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Production on “Black Widow” will reportedly kick off later in 2019. Cate Shortland is directing.
