Netflix has renewed “Grace and Frankie” for a third season in a big show of support for the Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin series.
The streaming site’s decision was announced the same day Tomlin was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance on the sitcom, as well as for her lead role in the indie feature “Grandma.” Strangely, Fonda was snubbed for “Grace and Frankie,” but did score a supporting nod for the feature “Youth.”
The acting veterans star as two very different women who turn to each other for comfort when their husbands (Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston) divorce them to marry each other. “Grace and Frankie” is created and executive produced by Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris. The series also co-stars Brooklyn Decker and a scene-stealing June Diane Raphael.
Season 2 just wrapped production.
In her review of the series, Women and Hollywood TV critic Sara Stewart praised the show’s two leads: “Tomlin and Fonda really are living it up in these roles, getting in some great digs about the invisibility of old age and the cosmic WTF of having your life uprooted at an age when you thought everything was more or less settled. They look terrific, and their comic timing is impeccable.”
