Already a two-time BAFTA winner, Jane Fonda has been named as the 2019 recipient of BAFTA LA’s Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film. The honor is given in recognition of “cinema legends whose work has left an indelible mark on the industry, and is the Britannia Awards’ highest accolade,” Variety reports.
Kathryn Busby, chair of the board of BAFTA LA, described the “Grace and Frankie” star as “an unstoppable force on stage, on screen, and behind the camera.” She continued, “The legendary actress’s illustrious career has spanned decades and awarded her with numerous accolades for the dozens of characters she has so brilliantly portrayed, We could not think of a more deserving recipient for this year’s Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film and are looking forward to honoring her outstanding achievements.”
Previous recipients of the Excellence in Film Award include Cate Blanchett, Jodie Foster, and Meryl Streep.
Fonda won lead actress BAFTAs for “Julia” and “The China Syndrome,” and took home Oscars for “Klute” and “Coming Home.” She last starred on the big screen in 2018’s “Book Club,” a comedy about a group of friends whose lives are changed after reading “Fifty Shades of Grey.” She currently stars in “Grace and Frankie” alongside Lily Tomlin. The Netflix comedy’s sixth season is scheduled to drop in 2020.
Susan Lacy recently explored Fonda’s acting, activism, and fitness empire in “Jane Fonda in Five Acts.” The documentary made its world premiere at Sundance 2018 and went on to air on HBO.
Scheduled to take place October 25 in LA, the British Academy Britannia Awards will be streamed in the U.S. and Canada via BritBox, the BBC and ITV’s joint subscription streaming service.
