Missing Dorothy, Rose, Blanche, and Sophia? Their successors may be on the way. Jane Lynch and Cyndi Lauper are teaming up for a Netflix comedy that Lynch describes as “kind of a ‘Golden Girls’ for today.” The “Glee” alumna accepted a trophy for her guest spot on “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” at this past weekend’s Creative Arts Emmys and spilled details about the new project backstage. Variety confirmed the news.
Carol Leifer (“Seinfeld”) is also working on the show. “I don’t know if I can even tell you, but it’s with Cyndi Lauper, so there! We’ll see,” Lynch said. Asked for further details, she elaborated, “We’re our age, I’m almost 60 and she’s 65, and we’re looking for our next act, without ever having had husbands or children. And there will be two other people who haven’t been cast yet.”
Lauper’s music career includes hits such as “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” She’s had recurring roles on “Bones” and “Mad About You.”
