Say goodbye to the women of Litchfield Penitentiary and hello to “Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters.” “Orange Is the New Black’s” seventh and final season drops July 26 on Netflix, but creator Jenji Kohan’s new comedy for the streamer just found its leads. Maddie Phillips (“Supernatural”) and Anjelica Bette Fellini (“The Gifted”) will topline “Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters,” according to Deadline.
Created by Kathleen Jordan (“American Princess”), the upcoming series follows 16-year-old fraternal twin sisters Sterling (Phillips) and Blair (Fellini) Wesley, “who after joining forces with a veteran bounty hunter Bowser Simmons (Kadeem Hardison), dive into the world of bail skipping baddies while still navigating the high stakes of teenage love and sex. Sterling and Blair plan to excel in all aforementioned extracurriculars, despite the watchful eye of their buttoned-up community,” the source hints.
Kohan is among the project’s exec producers, as is Jordan, Tara Herrmann (“GLOW”), and Robert Sudduth (“On My Block”). The latter will serve as showrunner.
“Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters” is expected to shoot in Atlanta, Georgia from July-October. Netflix head Ted Sarandos made headlines when he suggested the streamer would “rethink [their] entire investment in Georgia” if Georgia’s anti-abortion legislation became state law. The source explains that the decision to film in Georgia was made “months before” the passage of the so-called “heartbeat bill,” and “producers will be making a donation to The Autonomy Fund during the shoot there.”
“We’re not here to judge, y’all. We’re here to embrace the nuance, ” said Jordan and Sudduth. “This show is really about two young women trying to live their lives by their own rules, haters be damned. We can’t wait for the world to meet Sterling and Blair. And as for the title, ‘Sex Positive Teenage Bounty Hunters’ didn’t have the same ring,” they quipped.
Kohan added, “After spending the last seven years in prison, we were ready to break free and have some serious fun. Kathleen provided a world we were excited to jump into and shake our hips around.”
“Slutty Teenage Bounty Hunters” falls under Kohan and Herrmann’s overall deal with Netflix.
Jordan is best known for serving as a staff writer on “American Princess,” a Lifetime comedy inspired by creator Jamie Denbo’s experience of joining a Renaissance Faire. Kohan and Herrmann are exec producers on the series, which is currently in its first season.
