While the “The Office” has been off the air since 2013, we have no doubt the sitcom’s most beloved couple, Pam and Jim, remain happily married in TV heaven. But Variety reports that Jenna Fisher, the actress who brought Pam to life, is set to play a recently divorced woman in “Splitting Up Together,” a new ABC comedy pilot written by Emily Kapnek.
The Warner Bros. Television-produced project is based on a 2016 Danish series, and will tell the story of an ex-wife and husband whose relationship gets an unexpected boost — their romance is reignited in the aftermath of their divorce.
Lena (Fischer) and Martin (not yet cast) “still live in the same house, alternating weeks, with one living upstairs and doing the parenting while the other lives downstairs in the guest apartment,” Variety details. Described as “always-prepared,” Lena is “struggling to navigate a new life after her divorce from ex-husband Martin, whose laid-back approach to raising their three children appalls her.” Dean Holland (“Love”) will direct the pilot.
Kapnek created the short-lived but well-received “Selfie,” starring Karen Gillan (“Doctor Who”) and John Cho (“Star Trek” franchise), and “Suburgatory,” which ran for three seasons and marked “Don’t Breathe’s” Jane Levy’s first major starring role. She has also penned episodes of “Parks and Recreation” and “Hung.” Kapnek will serve as one of “Splitting Up Together’s” executive producers via her production company, Piece of Pie Productions. Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production will also produce in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Besides “The Office,” Fischer is best known for her roles in “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story” and “Blades of Glory.”
