Jennifer Aniston, Awkwafina, Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, Brie Larson, and Dana Walden are best known for their careers in the entertainment industry, but Variety is set to celebrate their humanitarian efforts. The women are being recognized for making “a significant difference in their chosen cause” at Variety’s 2019 Power of Women event in LA.

“Friends” alumna and future star of “The Morning Show” Aniston is being honored for her work with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children.

“Crazy Rich Asians” breakout Awkwafina is being paid tribute to thanks to her work with Building Beats, which provides DJ and Music Production programs that teach entrepreneurial, leadership, and life skills to underserved youth.

Carey, one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, is being acknowledged for The Fresh Air Fund’s Camp Mariah, a free summer experience for New York City children from low-income communities.

Ten-time Grammy winner Chaka Khan is being honored for her contributions to Little Kids Rock, an org dedicated to restoring, expanding, and innovating music education in schools.

“Captain Marvel” star and “Room” Oscar-winner Larson is being recognized for her work with The Equal Justice Initiative, a nonprofit organization that provides legal representation to indigent defendants and prisoners who have been denied fair and just treatment in the legal system.

Walden, who serves as Chairman of Disney Television Studios and ABC Entertainment, is being celebrated for her efforts with The UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, which is dedicated to cancer research, prevention, detection, control, treatment, and education.

“Since its inception, Variety’s Power of Women has been a celebration of female empowerment, philanthropy, and the commitment to progress being made by the professionals of our industry every day. We are so proud that the event continues on as a beacon of positivity in these challenging times,” said Variety Editor-in-Chief Claudia Eller.

Aniston, Awkwafina, Carey, Khan, Larson, and Walden will be featured on the front cover of Variety’s Power of Women issue, set to drop October 8. The issue will include the annual Women’s Impact Report, which highlights 50 women working in media and entertainment who’ve made an impact on the industry this year.

Variety’s Power of Women LA event is presented by Lifetime Television and sponsored by Audi and Moroccanoil and will take place October 11.
