Last week, Disney announced that Jennifer Lee, writer of the hit Wreck-It Ralph, will be co-directing their 53rd full length animated feature film, Frozen. Lee will become the 2nd woman to helm a Disney film, but the first from Disney proper (as far as we can tell). Brenda Chapman who co-directed Brave was the first and she was fired by the studio a year before the film came out. And we should remember that Chapman was employed by Pixar, which is owned by Disney.
Lee will be joining Chris Buck to helm the film and also will be a screenplay credit. Producer Peter Del Vecho says that Lee is perfect for the project:
Jenn has a real connection to the film and creates dynamic and relatable characters. Her sense of comedy, adventure and story structure paired with Chris Buck’s vast experience and incredible instincts create an ideal situation for this film.
Frozen, featuring the voices of Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, follows Anna, who is joined by mountain man Kristoff and his reindeer sidekick, to stop the eternal winter spell cast on their kingdom by her sister, Elsa, the Snow Queen.
