“355” has a release date. The star-studded Universal Pictures spy thriller sees Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger, and Fan Bingbing teaming up to prevent an international disaster. Variety confirmed that the pic is slated to hit theaters January 15, 2021. Chastain is re-teaming with her “Dark Phoenix” director Simon Kinberg on the project.
Penned by Kinberg and “Smash” creator Theresa Rebeck, “355” follows a “group of spies from international agencies around the world. These women must bond together, overcoming their suspicions and conflicts, to stop an event from occurring that could thrust the world into chaos. A new faction is formed – code-named ‘355,’ a name they adopt from the first female spy in the American Revolution,” the source summarizes.
Chastain is a two-time Oscar nominee thanks to her roles in “Zero Dark Thirty” and “The Help.” Nyong’o broke out with her Oscar-winning role in “12 Years a Slave.” “Us” and “Black Panther” are among her recent credits. Best known for her supporting role in “Inglourious Basterds,” Kruger’s recent features include “JT LeRoy” and “In the Fade.” Hugely successful in China and popular for her roles in titles such as “Cell Phone” and “I Am Not Madame Bovary,” Bingbing is perhaps most recognizable to American audiences for her role as Blink in “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
Freckle Films’ Chastain and Kelly Carmichael are among “355’s” producers. The former has been extremely vocal about the need for more inclusivity in Hollywood, both behind the scenes and onscreen.
