Jessica Jones Getting New Comic Series

“Jessica Jones”: Netflix

Jessica Jones is returning to the comics, IGN has reported. After the success of the Netflix series starring Krysten Ritter revolving around the character, Marvel is bringing her back to the page.

Jessica Jones first appeared in her own comic series titled “Alias” from 2001–2004. A new solo comic series featuring her was already in the works before the Netflix series came to fruition, IGN said, but the team members responsible for “Alias,” creators Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, and cover artist David Mack, wanted to wait until they were all available.

The success of the series makes it a ripe time for the character to be revisited in the comics. “The one thing that the show did, it took Jessica Jones and made her much more of a household name than she ever was when ‘Alias’ was being done, and much more important in the Marvel firmament, one of the very few characters that’s headlined a Marvel property in film or on television, so consequently there’s just more interest right now than a Jessica comic than there might have been a year ago or a couple of years ago,” said Marvel Comics Executive Editor Tom Brevoort. “That’s the one beautiful thing for us, the one ancillary gift that the show gave us was a much bigger audience and a much bigger spotlight to do the kind of stories that have always been done in ‘Alias’ and now in ‘Jessica Jones.’”

The synopsis for the upcoming comic reads: “She is back after a decade! A lot has changed in the Marvel Universe and there are still many secrets hiding in the shadows. Secrets only a special woman like Jessica Jones can hope to uncover. Discover the haunting secrets from Jessica’s past in this blistering new series. Alias Investigations is open for business.”

Jessica Jones #1 will hit comic stands this fall. “Jessica Jones” the series will return to Netflix in 2017.
