Amazon Studios is smartly deciding to do more business with its best creative mind.
The up-and-comer in the original-programming arena has signed off on a third season of “Transparent,” as well as an overall deal with creator/showrunner Jill Soloway’s production company to develop TV projects exclusively for Amazon Prime Instant Video.
The deal is the first of its kind for Amazon, which won its first two Golden Globes for “Transparent” earlier this year. The series’ second season starts production next week and will air this fall. Hopefully the critical buzz that Soloway’s generated for the streaming giant will inspire its execs to finally break out of that “white male creator = prestige TV” formula they’ve just been copying from other networks — with little to show for it.
“Jill is truly a creative force, and I’m thrilled that we will be collaborating with her [on] additional projects in the future and on a third season of ‘Transparent,’” commented Amazon Studios Vice President Roy Price.
Said Soloway: “I am blown away by the creative freedom Amazon gives me, and I can’t wait to reveal where this journey is going to take us.”
