The love affair between the folks over at Amazon and “Transparent” creator Jill Soloway continues to bear fruit. Only a few weeks ago, we reported that Soloway was working on a new television pilot for Amazon — the unforgettably titled “I Love Dick” — and now Amazon Studios has signed on to the writer-director’s latest film project.
“Ten Aker Wood” is described as a coming-of-age story about a woman who goes to live on a pot farm in Northern California after her marriage falls apart, according to Variety. Once there, she throws herself into a bohemian existence and begins a relationship with a biker.
The catalyst for Soloway’s Emmy and Golden Globe award-winning TV series “Transparent” was her own parent coming out as transgender, and Soloway has also described “Ten Aker Wood” as “partly autobiographical.”
This will be her first film project since the 2013 dramedy “Afternoon Delight,” which she also wrote and directed. This time around Soloway is teaming up with co-writer Sarah Gubbins, with whom she is currently working on the “I Love Dick” pilot. Andrea Sperling (“The Skinny,” “Transparent”) and actress and comedy writer Robin Ruzan (“Celebrity Liar”) are set to produce.
“Ten Aker Wood” is one of a whole slew of new movies set to come out of Amazon Studios, including “Private Life” from writer-director Tamara Jenkins of “The Savages” and “Slums of Beverly Hills” fame. “It makes my heart swell that they’ve hired all these people from the indie world who are all about the artists,” said Soloway of working with the studio.
