Jimmy Olsen is now Jenny Olsen in Zach Snyder’s Man of Steel?

nullWhile it’s still unconfirmed, earlier this week, io9 reported that Zach Snyder made a huge change in his upcoming stab at the Superman franchise, Man of Steel.

Reportedly (and according to the occasionally trustworthy IMDB), Snyder has swapped the gender of Clark Kent pal and co-worker, Jimmy Olsen, to Jenny Olsen, played by Rebecca Butler. In Superman mythology, Olsen plays a pretty big role in Superman’s life as a devoted friend and is the owner of a special watch that can signal the man of steel from anywhere in the world.  It is also unknown how large a role Olsen will take in Snyder’s iteration.

The folks at io9, have found Olsen briefly in the trailer at the 1:53 mark. The film stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and the always great Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

If this is the case, it’s a bold and exciting move on Snyder’s part to change up the conventions of the comic book film.  We'll be interested to see how that pans out and how it is accepted by comic book fandom.
