Joan Cusack is following in Meryl Streep’s footsteps and mastering the art of French cooking. A drama based on the life of Julia Child is “near a pilot” at HBO Max with Cusack set to star, according to Variety. Streep played the iconic chef in 2009’s “Julie and Julia.”
Currently untitled, the series is being written and exec produced by Daniel Goldfarb (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”). Plot details haven’t been announced.
Best known for her cookbook “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” and hosting “The French Chef,” Child is widely recognized as introducing and popularizing French cuisine to the U.S. public. She died in 2004.
Cusack received Oscar nods for “In & Out” and “Working Girl,” and won an Emmy in 2015 for her guest spot on “Shameless.” “Toy Story 4,” “A Series of Unfortunate Events,” and “Instant Family” are among her recent credits.
Other HBO Max projects in the works include a “Practical Magic” prequel from “Jessica Jones” creator Melissa Rosenberg and Meryl Streep-starrer “Let Them All Talk,” a comedy feature about an author who goes on a cruise with old friends.
