Women and Hollywood is teaming up with AMC to help spread the word about “Dietland,” Marti Noxon’s new series tackling fat-shaming, diet culture, sexual predators, feminism, and so much more.
Based on Sarai Walker’s 2015 best-selling novel of the same name, the comedy follows Plum Kettle (Joy Nash), a fat woman working at the country’s biggest beauty magazine. Consumed by insecurities and obsessed with whittling down her body so she can live the life she dreams of, Plum spends her days doling out diet and makeup advice to women as a ghostwriter for her boss Kitty (Julianna Margulies). But Plum is finally on the precipice of major change — and it’s not a smaller dress size. She begins to realize that conforming and losing weight isn’t the solution to her problem. Society is the problem, and more specifically, the patriarchy — and it’s time to dismantle the system. In the midst of Plum’s radicalization, men accused of sexual abuse and assault begin disappearing, and Plum may be a suspect.
“Dietland” premieres on AMC June 4, but you can get a sneak peek of the series on May 30 at our event in LA. Noxon will be in attendance and will participate in a Q&A with Women and Hollywood Founder and Publisher Melissa Silverstein after the screening. Please see more details below, including RSVP info.
*Note: Women and Hollywood has been hired by AMC to help reach our community because they believe that we are the targeted market for this series. We agree. This is a very special series created by a woman that is in keeping with the values of Women and Hollywood.
