Join Women and Hollywood for a Special Screening of Lynne Ramsay’s “You Were Never Really Here”

“You Were Never Really Here”: Amazon Studios

Women and Hollywood is working with Amazon Studios to help spread the word about the powerful new movie written and directed by Lynne Ramsay, “You Were Never Really Here.” We saw this film at Cannes last year and were completely blown away by it.

Described as “‘Taxi Driver’ for a new century” by The Times, “You Were Never Really Here” centers on Joe (Joaquin Phoenix), a hardened veteran who makes his living by finding missing girls. The film traces Joe’s latest job — saving a state senator’s daughter from a sex trafficking ring — which turns his world upside down. The film won two prizes including best screenplay at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.

“Ramsay has made something extraordinary,” The Playlist stresses, “a film that’s both cruel and compassionate, composed of quick, stabbing slivers of insight about how childhood terror can be twisted up with adult compulsion.”

“Lynne Ramsey, one of the finest British talents, has excelled herself here, writing and directing this brutal and visceral vehicle for Joaquin Phoenix to flex every acting muscle he has,” agrees The Sun.

In partnership with Amazon Studios, Women and Hollywood is hosting a special screening of “You Were Never Really Here” in New York City on April 5. Here are the details:

Thursday, April 5th at 7:00 PM
Angelika Film Center
18 W. Houston St.
New York, NY, 10012

If you’d like to attend, RSVP to Melissa Silverstein: melissa@womenandhollywood.com.

Amazon Studios has also organized an immersive art gallery featuring photography, video, and cinemagraphs that “capture the essence of the film and Ramsay’s overall artistic vision.” The show will be held in Los Angeles April 6–8 at Taschen Gallery. Details are below:

*Note to our community: Women and Hollywood has been hired by Amazon Studios to help reach our community because they believe that we are the targeted market for this film. We agree. This is a very special movie directed by a female director that is in keeping with the values and commitment of Women and Hollywood.
