Judi Dench is set to be celebrated by Screen International at the upcoming Screen Awards. The Oscar-winning actress been named as this year’s recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to UK Film award, given in recognition of an individual or company “whose contributions to UK film have had a significant impact on the reputation of the industry, both locally and internationally.” Screen Daily confirmed the news.
A seven-time Oscar nominee, Dench took home the award for her supporting role in “Shakespeare in Love.” She’s also received nods for “Philomena,” “Notes on a Scandal,” “Mrs. Henderson Presents,” “Iris,” “Chocolat,” and “Mrs Brown.” The celebrated stage actress has eight Oliviers to her name. She’s been acting for over seven decades.
”From her role as M in the ‘James Bond’ franchise to her starring performances in internationally recognized features such as ‘Mrs Brown’ and ‘Philomena,’ Dame Judi Dench has claimed her place as one of the UK’s most talented, iconic, and exportable film stars,” said Screen International editor Matt Mueller. “We are thrilled and delighted to be presenting Dame Judi with the Outstanding Contribution to UK Film achievement award.”
“Red Joan” and “Murder on the Orient Express” are among Dench’s most recent credits. Her upcoming projects include the high profile film adaptation of “Cats” and “Six Minutes to Midnight,” a drama set in Nazi Germany.
