Julia Ducournau continues to make headlines at the Toronto International Film Festival. The French filmmaker’s first feature, cannibal coming-of-age story “Raw,” received glowing reviews out of the 2016 edition of the fest and landed in the news after causing audience members to pass out during screenings. Now word comes out of TIFF that Neon has acquired her follow-up to the gory horror pic, “Titane.” The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.
Plot details about the new feature are being kept under wraps, and casting hasn’t been announced either.
“‘Raw’ was one of the most earth-shattering debut films in recent memory and we’ve been waiting for Julia’s next film ever since,” Neon said in a statement.
Ducournau penned the script for “Titane.”
The writer-director told us that the “best practical advice” she’s received was while prepping to shoot “Raw.” Director Bertrand Bonello told her, “You can only grant yourself one luxury when you make a film. Whether it’s a famous actor/actress you absolutely want in your movie, an extravagant location, or expensive VFX. Choose it well. Because it’ll be your only one. The rest is constant struggling.”
