“Julia” Renewed for Season 2

"Julia"

Sarah Lancashire is returning to the kitchen. She’ll continue to revolutionize the American food scene and home cooking in a second season of “Julia.” A press release announced that HBO Max has renewed the Julia Child-inspired comedy. Season 1 of the series launched on March 31 and concludes May 5.

A portrait of a public television superstar, “Julia” revisits how Child launched “The French Chef,” a long-running cooking show that transformed kitchens across the United States, all while facing heaps of sexism along the way. One scene in the first season sees a male exec wondering if Child is the right fit for TV — or if “someone with a more camera-friendly look and a less distinctive sound” would be better.

Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max, commented, “Through her masterful performance, Sarah Lancashire welcomed us into the life of Julia Child, a trailblazer who, among her many accomplishments, redefined the possibilities of public television and, in turn, brought French cuisine and culture into American living rooms.”

Betsy West and Julie Cohen released a doc about Child last year, also titled “Julia.” Meryl Streep received an Oscar nod for portraying her in the 2009 comedy “Julie & Julia.”

Lancashire will reprise her role as Sergeant Catherine Cawood in “Happy Valley’s” long-awaited third and final season. No word on a premiere date for the Sally Wainwright crime drama just yet.
