Justina Machado and Roxann Dawson Are Bringing “The Horror of Dolores Roach” to Amazon

Machado in "One Day at a Time": Netflix

Justina Machado has a new show in the works. The “One Day at a Time” alumna has been tapped to lead a series adaptation of “The Horror of Dolores Roach” in development at Amazon. Variety confirmed the news.

Based on the podcast of the same name, the series will see “Magic Hands” Dolores Roach (Machado) “released from prison after 16 years and [returning]  to a severely-gentrified Washington Heights with $200 and the clothes on her back. Her boyfriend missing, her family long gone, her apartment now occupied by strangers, Dolores finds respite in the dilapidated storefront Empanada Loca around the corner, the only remnant of her former life,” the source summarizes.

Amazon has given a pilot order to the project. Roxann Dawson, whose credits include “The Morning Show,” “This Is Us,” and “House of Cards,” will direct and serve as an exec producer.

Besides Netflix/Pop’s critically acclaimed “One Day at a Time” reboot, Machado is best known for her roles in “Jane the Virgin,” “Queen of the South,” and “Six Feet Under.”

Gloria Calderón Kellett, “One Day at a Time’s” co-creator and co-showrunner, also has a project with Amazon on the way. She recently scored a series order for “With Love,” her romantic comedy series about siblings on a mission to find love. Emeraude Toubia (“Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments”) will topline the series.
