Justine Bateman is lining up a star-studded cast for “Face,” her sophomore directorial effort. Mary-Louise Parker (“Weeds”), Carrie-Anne Moss (“The Matrix” franchise), Isabelle Fuhrman (“The Novice”), and Liana Liberato (“To the Stars”) have signed on “Face,” her follow-up to “Violet,” a 2021 psychological thriller that saw Olivia Munn playing a film exec being tortured by her abusive inner voice. Deadline confirmed the news of the “Face” casting. 

Based on Bateman’s 2021 bestseller “Face: One Square Foot of Skin,” the film “consists of 14 vignettes, both comedic and dramatic, which look at women’s faces getting older, and why that makes people angry. While much of society appears to assume that women’s faces are somehow broken and need to be fixed, ‘Face’ reveals some of the many ways in which women, and those around them, allow this idea to take root at all,” per the source.

Vignettes include the story of “an actress balancing her need to use her face for her job and the pressure to not move it at all” and a “waitress determined to succeed on her looks, while refusing the notion that those looks will ever change at all.”

Bateman is penning the pic and is among its producers. “Face” will begin production late in the fall.

Best known for her role as Mallory Keaton in “Family Ties,” Bateman is a two-time Emmy nominee whose other acting credits include “Desperate Housewives” and “Men in Trees.”

“Violet” made its world premiere at SXSW.
