Kate Mulgrew and Candice Bergen Release Memoirs

“Orange is the New Black” co-star Kate Mulgrew and “Murphy Brown” actress Candice Bergen each memoirs coming out.

Titled “Born With Teeth,” Mulgrew’s book will chronicle her life from her Irish Catholic upbringing in Iowa to the late ’90s, a few years into her turn as Captain Kathryn Janeway on “Star Trek: Voyager,” the actress’s favorite role of her four-decade career. In the book, which hits bookstores on April 14, Mulgrew reveals some of the most painful experiences of her life, including her 20-year search for the baby she gave up for adoption, her rape by a stranger in a Manhattan hallway, and the advice she’s received from her mother (“If you ever call a man on the telephone, you will get cancer of the hand”) and from Richard Burton (“This business will kill you…. It’s no place for a real man and it’s death to a good woman. Get the fuck out before it’s too late”).

Bergen’s memoir, “A Fine Romance,” seems lighter in tone. “I saw it first as a love letter to my daughter, and I was very grateful to be given the opportunity to do that,” she said of the book, which was published on April 7. “A Fine Romance” is actually an account of four romances: the one Bergen had with her first husband, French director Louis Malle; the ones she currently enjoys with her second husband and her daughter; and the one America enjoyed with Murphy Brown.
