“Grey’s Anatomy” and “Private Practice” star Kate Walsh is set to join the R-rated comedy feature “Girls Trip,” Deadline has reported. The film’s cast already includes Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Queen Latifah, Deborah Ayorinde, and Mike Colter.
The story follows college best friends who set out on a road trip to Essence magazine’s annual convention in New Orleans. Walsh, Deadline writes, will play “a crude and ballsy talent agent.” The film is set for a July 21 release.
As Women and Hollywood previously reported, though they have a long history of working together off-screen, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett-Smith haven’t appeared on-screen together since 1996’s “Set it Off.” The film was written by “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver (“Barbershop: The Next Cut”). Universal has “Girl Trip” set for a July 21, 2017 release.
Walsh is also headed to the Netflix comedy “#RealityHigh,” which follows, “a nerdy girl who must learn how to handle the pitfalls of high school when a social media celebrity classmate becomes her enemy.” Walsh plays a quirky doctor at an animal shelter. The film will hit the streaming giant on July 17. But that’s not Walsh’s only Netflix project in the works. She’s in production on the series “Thirteen Reasons Why” as well.
Walsh starred as Addison Montgomery on “Grey’s Anatomy” and led its spinoff “Private Practice.” She’s also appeared in “Legion” and “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”
