Kate Winslet to Be Honored at the British Independent Film Awards

Kate Winslet is getting another award she can store in her bathroom. The “Steve Jobs” star is set to receive The Variety Award at the 2015 Moet British Independent Film Awards on December 6. The honor recognizes a director, actor, writer or producer who makes their mark internationally and brings attention to the U.K.

“I am thrilled to be receiving this award, and to be in the company of a whole host of brilliant filmmakers and actors, many of whom I’m lucky enough to call friends and colleagues. It’s an honor to be flying the flag for British filmmaking,” said Winslet, who won an Oscar in 2008 for “The Reader.” Winslet, who is close to achieving EGOT status, has been nominated for an Academy Award five other times in addition to her win.

Variety executive editor, Steven Gaydos, commented, “From the beginning of her illustrious film career over 20 years ago, Kate Winslet has never ceased her eagerness to tackle new creative challenges, and to turn those challenges into amazing, lasting performances. Her current film, ‘Steve Jobs,’ is no exception and once again, the awards season conversation is immeasurably enlivened by her presence.”

Winslet’s two-decade-long career has included both blockbusters (“Divergent,” “Titanic”) and critical darlings (“Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Iris”).

“Steve Jobs” is currently in theaters. Winslet’s dark comedy, “The Dressmaker,” premiered at TIFF in September, but has yet to receive a U.S. release date. The film opens in Australia on October 29.
