Katherine Dieckmann’s “Strange Weather” is HIFF’s Southampton Opening Night Film

“Strange Weather”

Katherine Dieckmann’s “Strange Weather” will be the Southampton Opening Night at the Hamptons International Film Festival, which runs from October 6–10 this year, Variety has reported.

“Strange Weather” stars Holly Hunter as “a mother who travels the back roads of the Deep South to settle a score in an effort to deal with the grief over the death of her son.”

“I wanted to explore the complicated path of an unconventional female protagonist in a way that felt real to me in terms of the women I actually know in my life — women I rarely if ever get to see represented on the big screen,” Dieckmann told Women and Hollywood. “They have reached a certain age but remain unresolved, alive, contradictory, compelling, and not prone to stereotyping.”

Mike Mills’ “20th Century Women” will be featured as the Sunday centerpiece film of the fest. The film, which stars Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, and Billy Crudup, “tells the story of three women who explore love and freedom in Southern California during the late 1970s.”

“We are so proud to showcase films made by New York based, independent film directors, and it is an exceptional pleasure to showcase their works in these coveted festival slots,” said Anne Chaisson, festival executive director.

Festival artistic director David Nugent added that the slate will “bring an array of talented filmmakers, actors, and diverse storylines to HIFF this year. We are thrilled at the opportunity to screen these bodies of work.”
