Kathleen McGill and Mimi Deaton to Be Honored at DGA Awards

McGill and Deaton: DGA

Unit production manager Kathleen McGill and associate director Mimi Deaton are set to receive special honors at the upcoming 71st annual DGA Awards. The former will take home the Frank Capra Achievement Award and the latter the Franklin J. Schaffner Achievement Award, both of which are given “in recognition of career achievement and service to the guild,” Deadline writes.

“Kathy and Mimi embody the type of leadership, dedication, and distinguished commitment that these Special Awards were designed to celebrate,” said DGA president Thomas Schlamme. “Even with active, successful careers, they have both devoted countless hours in service to the DGA representing their fellow members and advocating on their behalf, strengthening our guild and reinforcing our mission to protect and promote the economic and creative rights of our members.”

After launching her career in the industry as a production accountant, McGill joined the guild as a unit production manager in 1995. “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” “A Beautiful Mind,” and “The Da Vinci Code” are among her credits.

McGill’s active involvement in the DGA includes serving on the Eastern AD/UPM Council and the DGA’s national board of directors.

A member of the DGA for over three decades, Deaton has served on the Western AD/SM/PA Council for 21 years, including spending the last four as Second Vice-Chair of the Council. “Facts of Life,” “Reba,” and “The Neighborhood” are among her credits.

Deaton’s service to the DGA includes serving on the DGA Negotiating Committee, and she was “instrumental in the guild’s fight to increase the Basic Cable multi-camera rates and worked closely with her AD/UPM colleagues to improve economic and industry parity with network productions.”

McGill and Deaton will be presented with their honors at the DGA Awards on February 2 in Hollywood. Nominations for the guild’s TV and doc awards will be announced January 7, and nominees for film the next day, January 8.
