Some criticism against Kathryn Bigelow during The Hurt Locker era was lobbed against Bigelow’s statements that filmmaking for her isn’t about breaking gender roles. However, as Jessica Chastain said in her Golden Globes acceptance speech, “when you make a film that allows your character to disobey the conventions of Hollywood, you’ve done more for women in cinema than you take credit for.”
Here is another way that Bigelow is promoting women. She and Sony teaming up with Thunderclap, a social issues minded social media platform that allows users to send out pre-written tweets and Facebook statuses at specific times. Bigelow’s will be rallying support for the role that women have played in our national security.
She needs at least 500 people to support her so the tweet will go out as planned. Get on board. You can go directly to Thunderclap to find the tweet, sign up and see the Zero Dark Thirty trailer.
