Katie Aselton’s Diane Keaton-Starrer “Mack & Rita” Acquired by Gravitas Premiere

"Mack & Rita"

Gravitas Ventures is launching a new theatrical release label, and the first title on its docket is Katie Aselton’s third feature. Deadline reports that Gravitas Premiere has acquired Aselton’s “Mack & Rita,” and is planning a theatrical release for the Diane Keaton-starrer in the U.S. and Canada August 12.

Penned by “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” alums Madeline Walter and Paul Welsh, “Mack & Rita” follows Mackenzie Martin (Elizabeth Lail, “You”), who “is tired of doing all the things she has to do to keep up and get ahead in her 30s. Since she was a little girl, Mack’s deepest wish has been to be just like her Grammie: comfortable in her own skin, great at saying ‘no,’ and largely unburdened by what others think of her — not to mention love for a good chunky sweater and being in bed by 8:00 p.m.! While at her best friend’s bachelorette in Palm Springs, Mack stumbles into a sound bath regression pod and emerges a 70-year-old woman,” the source teases. “Now transformed as ‘Aunt Rita’ (Keaton), Mack thinks she will finally find self-acceptance, but quickly learns the reality of skipping to old age isn’t quite what she imagined.”

The film’s supporting cast includes Taylour Paige (“Zola”) and Loretta Devine (“Waiting to Exhale”).

Nolan Gallagher, Gravitas Ventures’ Founder and CEO, described “Mack & Rita” as “an excitingly fresh and insightful comedy that needs to be experienced on the big screen.”

A four-time Oscar nominee, Keaton took home the prize for “Annie Hall.” “Poms” and “Book Club” are among her recent credits.

Aselton previously helmed 2012’s “Black Rock” and 2010’s “The Freebie.” She also acted in both. Her other on-screen credits include “The Morning Show,” “Bombshell,” and “Casual.”
