After making entertainment history as television’s youngest-ever talk-show host, 20-year-old Keke Palmer will set another record as Broadway’s first black Cinderella in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Tony-winning musical named after the fairy-tale character.
Palmer will take the stage on September 9. She’ll wear a pair of glass slippers made by designer Stuart Weitzman.
Unsurprisingly, the actress was inspired by another diverse princess. Of the 1997 TV movie starring Brandy Norwood, Whoopi Goldberg, Whitney Houston, and Bernadette Peters, Palmer said, “I feel like the reason I’m able to do this is definitely because Brandy did it on TV…. In me doing this, it shows everybody that everything is possible.”
Palmer will star opposite Sherri Shepherd, who’ll be the first black actress to play the evil-witch character Madame on Broadway.
