Kerry Washington and Katie Lowes are teaming up with their “Scandal” boss Shonda Rhimes, but this time around, they’ll be joining her behind the scenes. The actresses will executive produce an as-yet-untitled series via Shondaland currently in development at ABC. The hour-long show will focus on a group of young nannies.
The project will be an upstairs-downstairs portrait (think: “Downton Abbey”) about contemporary child-rearing. The drama focuses not only on the nannies themselves, but the trio of families they work for, as well as other support staff that keep the households running.
Actress-writer Bess Wohl, who formerly starred in “CSI: NY,” will write the script and EP with Rhimes, her producing partner Betsy Beers, Washington, Lowes and the latter’s husband, Adam Shapiro.
If the potential series gets picked up, it won’t be the first producing credit to Washington’s name. The “Django Unchained” star will play the lead role and serve as executive producer on “Confirmation,” an upcoming HBO biopic about law professor Anita Hill.
