Kristin Scott Thomas is set to be recognized for her “outstanding contribution to British film” at the 2019 British Independent Film Awards. She’s been named as the recipient of the Richard Harris Award, ScreenDaily confirms.
A five-time BAFTA nominee, Scott Thomas is best known in the U.S. and Britain for her Oscar-nominated role in “The English Patient” and titles such as “Four Weddings and Funeral,” “Mission: Impossible,” and “Darkest Hour.” She also regularly appears in French-language films and on the stage. Scott Thomas won an Olivier award in 2008 for her role in “The Seagull.”
Emma Thompson and Judi Dench are among the previous recipients of the Richard Harris Award.
Scott Thomas is set to make her directorial debut with “The Sea Change,” a romantic comedy based on Elizabeth Jane Howard’s 1995 novel of the same name. You can catch her next in “Military Wives,” set to bow March 27. Based on a true story, the pic sees a group of women forming a military base choir while their partners are deployed in Afghanistan.
The British Independent Film Awards will take place December 1. Women-directed films up for honors include Joanna Hogg’s “The Souvenir,” a coming-of-age story about a film student in a destructive relationship with an older man, and Waad al-Kateab and Edward Watts’ “For Sama,” a documentary that chronicles life in Aleppo through five years of the Syrian revolution.
