Kristina Lauren Anderson Will Adapt Eliza Griswold’s “Amity and Prosperity” for TV

Griswold

Eliza Griswold’s exposé on fracking’s devastating effects on the community of Amity, Pennsylvania is coming to television. According to Deadline, Film 44 is producing a limited series based on Griswold’s’s Pulitzer Prize-winning nonfiction book “Amity and Prosperity: One Family and the Fracturing of America.” Black List scribe Kristina Lauren Anderson has been hired to pen the adaptation.

Published last year and just released in paperback, “Amity and Prosperity” is the story of how Stacey Haney raised awareness about the dark side of fracking. “Haney, a lifelong resident of Amity, was struggling to support her children when the fracking boom came to town,” per the book’s synopsis. “Like most of her neighbors, she saw the energy companies’ payments as a windfall. Soon trucks are rumbling down her unpaved road and a fenced-off fracking site rises on adjacent land. But her annoyance gives way to concern and then to fear as domestic animals and pets begin dying and mysterious illnesses strike her family — despite the companies’ insistence that nothing is wrong.”

In addition to “Amity and Prosperity,” Griswold has written a book of poetry, “Wideawake Field,” and nonfiction title “The Tenth Parallel,” an account of the clash between Christian and Muslim cultures at the titular latitude, which is seven hundred miles north of the equator. She is also a reporter for The New Yorker.

Anderson’s first screenplay, biopic “Catherine the Great,” topped the 2014 Black List. Her upcoming slate includes a feature reimagining of “Swan Lake,” to which Felicity Jones is attached, a film adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s novel “The Alchemist,” and an Amazon series based on Chloe Benjamin’s coming-of-age tale “The Immortalists.” Anderson previously served as a consulting producer on TNT’s “The Alienist.”
