It’s been quite a week for Lady Gaga. On Sunday, she stunned critics and viewers with her powerful “Sound of Music” tribute at the Oscars, prompting Time to suggest that her show-stealing performance “could redefine her career.” And today marks the announcement that the “Poker Face” singer will star in the next season of “American Horror Story.” Redefine her career indeed.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Gaga, one of the best-sellling musical artists of all time, will be “a series regular in the fifth edition of the popular thriller, which is expected to air this fall.” This will be the singer’s first major acting role (she previously appeared as Girl at Swimming Pool #2 in an episode of “The Sopranos” when she was 15). While her character details remain unknown, the theme of the upcoming season seems to be “American Horror Story: Hotel.”
With her out-there aesthetic, Gaga seems perfectly suited for a role on the bizarro FX series. She’s certainly demonstrated a flair for the dramatic over the years, and Gaga has worked with Ryan Murphy, the co-creator of “American Horror Story,” before: the Grammy winner let “Glee” use her songs and called the tribute “a dream.”
