Lashana Lynch Is the New 007

Lynch: IMDb

Lashana Lynch is shaking up the “Bond” universe. Best known for standing — and flying — by Brie Larson’s side in “Captain Marvel,” the British actress has been tapped to play the next 007 in the 25th installment of the franchise.

“The film is set to pick up in Jamaica where Craig’s character retreated to for life after MI6 at the end of ‘Spectre.’ After getting the call up to get back in the spy game, turns out someone else has adopted his code name in his absence,” Buzzfeed News reports. That “someone else” is Lynch.

It’s unclear if Lynch will be taking over the franchise — producer Barbara Broccoli has been clear about her desire to keep the iconic protagonist a male.

“Fleabag” and “Killing Eve” creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge is working on the script of the the upcoming “Bond” pic. The only woman writer to receive a credit in the long-running franchise thus far is Johanna Harwood, who nabbed a writer credit for reworking “Dr. No” and an adaptation credit for “From Russia With Love.”

“Still Star-Crossed,” “Crims,” and “Bulletproof” are among Lynch’s prior credits.
