More major news for Laura Dern. About 24 hours ago it was announced that she’s returning to the “Jurassic Park” franchise, and now word comes that she’ll be honored at the upcoming IFP Gotham Awards. A press release revealed that she’ll receive the Actress Tribute.
“We are thrilled to be honoring the extraordinary talents of one of our most beloved actors, Laura Dern, with this year’s Actress Tribute,” said Jeff Sharp, Executive Director of IFP and the Made in NY Media Center. He emphasized that Dern “transcends the screen and imbues each and every one of her characters with a deep intelligence and warmth.”
It’s been a banner year for Dern. She reprised her Emmy-winning role as Renata on HBO murder mystery “Big Little Lies” and earned strong reviews for her supporting turn in awards hopeful “Marriage Story,” set to hit theaters December 6. Later that month you can catch her playing Marmee in Greta Gerwig’s take on “Little Women,” bowing December 25. And we now know she’s on board to revisit her iconic “Jurassic Park” role: she’s signed on to portray Ellie Sattler in “Jurassic World 3.”
A two-time Oscar nominee, Dern was recognized for “Wild” and “Rambling Rose.” Her more recent credits include “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Twin Peaks: The Return,” and “The Tale.”
Dern will receive the Actress Tribute at the IFP Gotham Awards on December 2 in New York. “When They See Us” creator, director, writer, and exec producer Ava DuVernay will be honored with this year’s Director’s Tribute.
