Laura Dern coached Scarlett Johansson through a messy divorce in “Marriage Story,” and now the Oscar nominee is set to offer a sympathetic ear to a bunch of other unhappy characters. According to Variety, Dern will star as a bartender in Quibi series “Just One Drink.”
The project “will be comprised of a series of one act vignettes between said bartender and the customers she serves, all of whom are in various states of emotional disrepair,” the source teases.
Dern and Jayme Lemons will executive produce via their Jaywalker Pictures. Also serving as EP is Elisa Ellis of Platform One Media. Author and “Brooklyn” screenwriter Nick Hornby is penning the project.
No word on a premiere date yet.
Quibi, a platform for short-form content, will officially launch on April 6. Anna Kendrick and Catherine Hardwicke also have projects in the works at the company.
Dern is up for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her work as a divorce attorney in “Marriage Story.” She’s already picked up a Golden Globe and a SAG award for her performance. Dern previously received Oscar nods for “Wild” and “Rambling Rose.” “Big Little Lies,” “The Tale,” and “JT LeRoy” are among her recent credits
You can catch Dern in theaters now as Marmee, the mother of the March sisters, in Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women.” Next, she’ll reprise the role of Ellie Sattler in “Jurassic World 3.” The latest installment of the franchise is scheduled for a June 11, 2021 release.
