Laura Kosann Tapped to Adapt “Mercy Sparx” Comic for MGM

"Mercy Sparx"

Black Widow, Captain Marvel, and Ms. Marvel are getting more company: another female-led comic adaptation is on the way. Laura Kosann, the 2021 Academy Nicholl Fellow who’s had two screenplays on the Black List, has been tapped to pen a pic based on “Mercy Sparx” for MGM, The Picture Company, and Assemble Media. Deadline broke the news.

A “demon sent from Hell to Earth on a mission, which she must complete while hiding among humans,” Mercy has an “existential crisis” on Earth  and “begins to see the gray area between good and evil. It forces her to choose her place within it and compromises her mission,” the source details.

Two of Kosann’s screenplays, “The Ideal Woman” and “From Little Acorns Grow,” appeared on the 2021 Black List. The former is set up at Innis Free and B for Effort. Her feature directorial debut, “The Social Ones,” won the Audience Award for Best Comedy at Cinequest. She penned the script for the mockumentary about social media influencers.
