Lauren Graham to Break Late-Night TV’s Glass Ceiling with Ellen DeGeneres (Sort Of)

It’s no secret that late-night television has a diversity problem. As we wrote previously, with Chelsea Handler off the air and Larry Wilmore’s Minority Report not set to debut until January 2015, there are currently no women or minorities headlining a talk show after 10 PM.

Gilmore Girls and Parenthood actress Lauren Graham is gearing to address the persistent white maleness of late night. With executive producer Ellen DeGeneres and co-writer Liz Tuccillo, Graham is developing and set to star in a NBC sitcom called Kate on Later about a woman “who thought her day job was all her life would amount to when an opportunity arises that’s bigger than she ever dreamed possible. But that opportunity means she’s going to have to break one of the last remaining glass ceilings — the world of late-night network television talk shows.”

Graham is also currently working with DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production studio on adapting her debut novel, Someday, Someday, Maybe, about a young actress who’s trying to launch a career in New York City, as a series on CW.
