Mj Rodriguez took home a major honor at GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics’ Dorians TV Awards. Hot off her historic Emmy nomination for “Pose,” the actress received the GALECA LGBTQIA+ Trailblazer Award for “creating art that inspires empathy, truth, and equity,” per Deadline. She was recognized during a pre-recorded ceremony that streamed Sunday on Here TV and YouTube’s PlanetOut.
The night’s big winners also included HBO/BBC One’s “I May Destroy You,” a portrait of a writer reckoning with the aftermath of her sexual assault, and HBO Max’s “Hacks,” a dark comedy about a stand-up legend and her millennial employee. The former was named Best TV Movie or Miniseries and the latter snagged the award for Best TV Comedy. “I May Destroy You’s” creator, writer, and star, Michaela Coel, tied for Best TV Performance with “Hacks'” Jean Smart. Coel also tied with “SNL’s” Bowen Yang for the Wilde Wit Award, given to a “performer, writer, or commentator whose observations both challenge and amuse.”
