Lily Collins’ next project will see her playing an American abroad. The “Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” actress is signed on to topline and produce “Emily in Paris,” an upcoming Paramount Network series from creator Darren Starr (“Younger,” “Sex and the City”). Deadline confirmed the news.
A half-hour dramedy, “Emily in Paris” tells the story of an ambitious 20-something who leaves the Midwest behind for the City of Lights. Emily (Collins) receives an unexpected job offer and moves Paris, where she’s “tasked with bringing an American point of view to a venerable French marketing firm,” the source hints. “Cultures clash as she adjusts to the challenges of life in a foreign city, while juggling her career, new friendships, and love life.”
Collins stated, “To be not only starring in a TV show created by Darren but also producing it with him and the Paramount Network is a real ‘pinch me’ moment. All of Darren’s shows have deeply defined, greatly impacted, and undeniably helped me navigate my journey into womanhood,” she emphasized. “I couldn’t imagine a more inspiring city to be our ‘Emily in Paris’ home than Paris. What an absolute dream project!”
“Lily possesses unparalleled depth to bring the necessary humor, heart, and drama to this exciting role,” added Keith Cox, President of Development and Production for Paramount Network and TV Land. “We can’t wait to get started with her.”
Scheduled to go into production later this year, “Emily in Paris” has received a 10-episode commitment from Paramount Network and is expected to premiere in 2020.
The BBC’s recent adaptation of “Les Misérables” and Amazon drama “The Last Tycoon” are among Collin’s TV credits. Her film credits include “Rules Don’t Apply,” “To the Bone,” and “Mirror, Mirror.” She’ll be seen next in “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile,” a drama that revisits Ted Bundy’s infamous crimes from the perspective of his longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer. In 2017 she released a book of essays, “Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me.”
