Today, December 19, marks the 39th anniversary of “9 to 5’s” release. And the topics the beloved comedy tackled — equal pay, sexual harassment, childcare, women’s opportunity for advancement, etc. — are just as relevant in the current landscape as they were in 1980. Directors Camille Hardman and Gary Lane explore “9 to 5’s” impact and what has — and hasn’t — changed since its premiere in their upcoming documentary “Still Working 9 to 5.” Stars Lily Tomlin and Dolly Parton are among the interviewees who appear in the doc’s new trailer, a Women and Hollywood exclusive.
“It did touch a nerve, it did resonate with enough people,” Parton says of the film’s legacy. Tomlin adds that the pic also made waves in terms of representation. “It was a revelation to a lot of people, that three women could hold a movie,” she said. She, Parton, and Jane Fonda starred as co-workers who band together to take down their misogynist boss and transform their office’s toxic culture.
