Lindsey Beer Inks Overall Deal with Paramount, Slate Includes “Susie Thunder”

Lindsey Beer is celebrating the wrap of her directorial debut, a “Pet Sematary” prequel, by entering a pact with the studio behind the pic. She’s signed a first-look deal with Paramount Players that will see her producing, writing, and directing feature projects, with several already in the works. Deadline broke the news.

Among the titles on Beer’s packed slate is “Susie Thunder,” a pic inspired by Susan Thunder, an infamous ’80s hacker.

Beer penned the 2018 Netflix rom-com “Sierra Burgess Is a Loser” and has a slew of high-profile projects in the pipeline: as a writer, she’s recently worked the latest “Star Trek” offering, a remake of “Bambi,” and a pic based on Hello Kitty. She’s the creator and showrunner of “The Magic Order,” an upcoming Netflix series about five families of magicians.

“We love Lindsey as a writer, director, producer, and as a human being. She is a creative force with great commercial instincts and boundless ambition. We are very happy that she chose to make Paramount her home, and we look forward to making a lot of movies together,” said Daria Cercek and Mike Ireland, co-presidents of Paramount Pictures, Motion Picture Group.

Beer added, “Growing up, many of the films that inspired me to become a filmmaker were Paramount releases. I’m thrilled to have a home at a studio with such a storied legacy, and whose future holds so many more amazing stories to come under such smart and talented leadership. I’m so excited by the kinds of stories they want to tell. We could not be more aligned in our ambition to make the kind of meaningful and entertaining movies that remind us that movies are still special.”
