BTS, Twice, Blackpink, and other K-Pop sensations have taken the world by storm, creating fervent fans stateside and across the globe. The beloved Korean export is set to serve as inspiration behind Rebel Wilson’s next project. Lionsgate has acquired rights to “Seoul Girls,” a comedy feature penned by the “Isn’t It Romantic” star. Young-Il Kim (“Billions”) revised the script. Deadline broke the news.
The pic sees a “Korean American high school girl and her friends … enter a worldwide talent competition to be the opening act for the world’s biggest K-pop boy band. With help from an ex-member of a British girl group and a former K-pop trainee, the Seoul Girls find their voices on the world’s biggest stage,” the source summarizes. Wilson has a role in the film, and although its unspecified, it seems likely that she’ll play the ex-member of the British girl group.
Wilson is producing via her Camp Sugar banner, and she’ll be joined by Monumental Pictures’ Alison Owen and Debra Hayward.
Best known for the “Pitch Perfect” franchise, Wilson’s other credits include “The Hustle,” “How to Be Single,” and “Bridesmaids.” You can catch her in Nazi satire “Jojo Rabbit,” in theaters now.
